This is just a reminder about the next Austin chapter meeting.
The meeting will be held on Monday, June 3, 2013 in UT's Butler School of Music building, room M3.113. This is where we
usually have our chapter meetings. The meeting starts at 7:30 PM and will run as late as needed, up to 9:00 PM.
Please read the following:
Robert Dedman Drive, the street that UT's School of Music is on, is CLOSED from between Dean Keaton, and 24th
There is NO parking on this portion of Robert Dedman St. This portion is fenced off and inaccessible to any vehicular
traffic. There is available parking in the LBJ Library parking lot. There is also metered parking on Dean Keaton, close to UT's School of Law. There is also paid parking in the San
Jacinto Garage, with entrances on Trinity St. or San Jacinto St.
Please give yourself a little extra time to park and amble over to the meeting.
Our selected delegate for the national convention, Christopher Prewitt, will be asking for the chapter consensus on how we would
like him to vote on the upcoming Bylaw Amendment Meeting held the first two days of the National Convention in Chicago.
The topic will be "Techniques And Tools For Servicing Older Pianos" I'll have a few things to discuss relating
to this topic, and a few photos of some of the weird old pianos I've come across in my experiences as a piano technician. Christopher Prewitt, RPT, will also share some of his experiences and photos. Joe
Dunn, Associate, will show us how to the "the knot" for when string splicing is needed, and we'll discuss something many of us have come across, how and when to explain to the customer that
their piano is not really worth, tuning and or repair. There are other possibilities too, for that piano that can't function as a piano any longer. Finally, Everett Clare, Associate, and pneumatic player
piano wizard, will talk about what to expect, and pitfalls to avoid when tuning the pneumatic player piano or reproducer. If any members have photos of some of the disastrous pianos they've had to service,
please being them to share.
There will be no chapter meeting in July.
I'm hoping to meet at somewhere like Threadgills for an August Chapter meeting. The September meeting ail be at Brian Henselman's new retail facility. Brian and a Factory Rep will show us the features of the Hailun vertical and grand pianos. This event is limited to 30 seats so please RSVP to me. This meeting is slated for September 9, 2013.
The October meeting will be a presentation by Nick Gravagne, RPT. Date and topic TBA.
I look forward to seeing you at the next PTG Austin Chapter meeting. Please help support our chapter.
